Now that you have your blog up and running, are posting frequently and submitting to article directories, it is time to look at ways to pump up your blog income.

Google Adsense may already be on your blog – if not, go open an account with Adsense, get your code and paste it in to the appropriate spot in your blog via the admin area.  Google will then place content relevant ads on your site.

That is a good beginning but it’s not good enough unless you are content to peck at crumbs instead of dining out on epicurean delights.  What you want to do is inject another source of income, one that will pay you more, much more, than Adsense and that, ladies and gentlemen, is Affiliate Marketing.

Affiliate Marketing pays upwards of 70% of their selling price, so if the product sells for $10 then you get paid $7.  The main difference is that with Adsense Google will pay you every time someone clicks on one of the ads, while as an affiliate will pay you every time someone buys their product when they click through the ad on your site.

Digital affiliate products are an excellent beginning.  Here is why I like digital products:.

1.  Ease of Access:  Your visitor clicks on your advertisement, reads the sales info, likes it, buys it and has instant download access to it.  Immediately your visitor  has become a customer and can start putting the information to use.  Instant gratification.

2.  High Profit Margins:  A digital product is produced once and sold over and over and over.  With the press of a button the product is delivered directly to your customer’s inbox.  The traditional costs associated with shipping, handling and overhead are just not there.  That is the main reason that affiliates will pay as much as 70% on their products.

3.  Done For Your Marketing Tools:  If the affiliate is any good then there are already banners set up so that you can publish them on your blog.  For example, on the right hand side you will see an ad for Atomic Blogging and another for Secret Affiliate Weapon. The graphics are already set up for me.  Other support material such as email scripts with links may also be available.  Most importantly, the graphics and links take your visitor to the product owner’s sales page which sets out exactly what is included in the product.

There are several places you can go to get your digital products.  One way is to simply Google “affiliate digital your topic,” another is to go to an affiliate directory, such as Clickbank, which lists only digital affiliate programs.

When choosing your affiliate do some due diligence.  Check the statistics on that affiliate, what is the selling price, what is the commission, does it sell well, what is the conversion rate … if you choose your affiliate via Clickbank this information is available with every product they include in their directory.

While an ad on your site does not automatically mean that you endorse the product, there seems to be an implied approval.  I like to promote products that I am familiar with and with which I am happy.  For example I own both Atomic Blogging and Secret Affiliate Weapon.  If you are just starting out you may not have this kind of experience to draw from as yet and that is why due diligence is important.

Investing in a product that you want to promote is one of the best ways to do your due diligence.  If your blog is about dog training you may want to buy one of the many dog training digital affiliate programs available.  Try it out.  Now you have experience and can promote with first hand knowledge.

Happy Blogging!
