Hi Shelly,
Yes, I have heard about hydroponic gardening. I talk about it in this article. It is not that the product is "too perfect" it is that it has not character of its own.

Hi Valentina. This was a good read. Have you heard about hydroponic gardening? fruits and veggies grown this way never touch soil but they reportedly retain more of their nutrients. This method may not be to your liking as the product might be too perfect for you.

Hi Kaley
Welcome to Blog Income.

Yes. There is also a move here in Vancouver to rooftop gardening ... great for air quality. There are a few urban gardens on good ole' terra firma too in various parts of the city lovingly tended by the "owners" of little plots which are usually public land. It's wonderful!

Thank you for stopping by and do return often ... the door is always open at Blog Income.

Urban gardens provide a great way to grow your own food and preserve the environment. Plus, they're super fun. Who doesn't like watching giant plants blossoming in your tiny living space?

[...] Sunday Morn Musings: Designer Tomatoes 14/03/10 When shopping for fresh produce I stay away from the pure red, blemish free, perfectly round, still attached to its vine, tomato. Instead, I carefully pick through the adjacent bin, the one with the imperfect tomatoes looking for perfect tomatoes. I know. That is a contradiction. For the full article on why hop on over to Sunday Morn Musings [...]

Hi Des,

That is horrible! I have my doubts re food shortages in the future but be that as it is, there must be other solutions. And I can't help thinking that these warehouses of glass & plastic must in some way effect the environment. One thought that comes to mind is that farm factories be underground and the energy needed to give the produce the proper light be garnered from good ol' sol - particularly in places where there is plenty of it.

Always great to have you here Des.

Hi Valentina,
you've hit on one of my favourite soap box subjects here! The eastern end of Andalucia in Spain is blighted by these huge expanses of plastic (if you have Google Earth, search for Almeria and you'll see what I mean).

Not only do they produce poor quality, tasteless, chemical laden food, they also lower the water table and leach in salt water from the sea to poison the land. Now that the entire Almeria peninsula is covered in plastic, they are moving inland. If the terrain is too hilly, they just bulldoze it flat, ruining the geography forever.

And now that the latest fear seems to be that the world will be unable to feed itself in the future, I believe that this sort of vandalism will only increase.

Progress? I don't think so!

Hope you had a good weekend,
Des.
