It is always interesting; here in the US, President Obama was criticized for supporting Chicago’s recent Olympic bid, mainly on the basis of the potential cost, then mocked for ‘failing’ to deliver the games to Chicago. If they’re such a drain, why shouldn’t we be happy that Chicago ‘dodged a bullet’? Although, I suppose I’ll never understand political logic.

I don’t really understand the opposition to elitism, either; I would guess it’s a symptom of Western society’s promotion of the Everyman; being common, salt of the earth (in a word, normal) is considered the ideal, and anyone who rises above that is castigated for getting above their station. But then, maybe it’s just envy; who knows, really?

Hi Sire,

Go figure! I think that on norm it is the usual “no matter what anyone says or does, I am against it” crowd often augmented by the “rent a crowd” group and a bunch of sheeples jump on the bandwagon, bleeting about something they really don’t know much about. (watch for my “marshmallow people” one of these Sundays – will be a reprint from my Four O’Clock Thursdays, but timely again). I think that it is an enormous honor to host the world.

Looking forward to the big event. The athletes of course are already here and have been practicing their sport.

Isn’t it amazing how everybody fights their hardest to host the Olympics and then when they’ve won it you get all these people complaining about the cost involved.

Sure there is a cost, but there are also many benefits on of which it will put Vancouver on the world map which will have many benefits even after the Olympics is over.
